For more than 15 years Ballybrado coordinates the production and supply of wool from certified organic farms in Ireland, including Ballybrado Farm. Where there are no specific standards for organic wool in Ireland, these are our guarantees:

Maximum environmental protection
Absence of chlorated carbon hydrates and organophosphates from sheep dips
Wool processing standards are still in their infancy. New information is coming up continuously and the goal posts are moved all the time. Yet simple issues like "which dye is safe to use" are still not addressed satisfactorily. This has by and large paralysed organic wool marketing.
For this reason modern wool marketing has for the time being withdrawn to th eorganic origin of the fibre and you see labels stating:
The finish of the wool is largely left at the responsibilities of spinners and processor who use their individual means to fill in this information gap.
For Ballybrado wool this means:
For the scouring process only soda is used. For the spinning process a vegetable based spinning oil is added, which is washed out later. And this is all that is been done to the wool.

The spinning mill is located in an environmentally sensitive area. All discharges are closely monitored. To put these discharges in context and to give you peace of mind we can state that today even trout live in the millstream, that drives the turbine that generates the electricity for the spinning mill.
Irish wool is known for its durability, the worsted spinning gives the garments beautiful softness. Brown and grey shades are not dyed but come from black and grey sheep.

Fabrics are produced in different designs and weights from 300 - 550g/m2 and include fabric for furnishing.
