Chocolate Kisses


125g butter
100g sugar
125g whole wheat/ spelt flour
125g ground almonds
2 tbsp. cocoa
3-5 drops vanilla essence
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ level tsp. baking powder

For brushing: 1 egg yolk

To decorate: Whole skinned almonds


  1. Pre-heat oven to 200° C.
  2. Knead all dough ingredients well.
  3. Leave dough covered in refrigerator for one hour.
  4. After that shape dough into 2cm (1 inch) Ǿ balls.
  5. Place balls onto a greased baking tin and brush each one with a little egg yolk. Then press one half almond in the top.
  6. Bake for 15- 20 minutes.
  7. Leave to cool on a cooling rack.
